All the VVL teams have settled into training and competition and as a Club we are so proud of our coaches and players for the way they are conducting themselves both on and off the court.
We are so pleased to have 45 returning players involved with our Club this year. We also have a record number of new members (31) enjoying their first season of State League, with the majority coming from our junior development program.
Good luck to all the teams for the upcoming matches.
Juniors start again this week with the invited group on Mondays, and the junior development program running on Tuesdays in East Keilor and Thursdays in Eltham. Friday night competition starts for the juniors this friday at Western Region Volleyball and we are fielding one open boys team, one open girls team and one junior girls team in this weekly competition.
There are a number of junior one day Sunday tournaments coming up with the first being on 27th May.
Indoor State team selection trials are being held on May 6, 13 and 20 and we would like all the juniors in the club to go and trial for the state teams, if for no other reason than to enjoy some training sessions with your peers.
Congratulations to Alex Skinner who has been selected into the School Sports Victoria 15 and under girls team.
Good luck to all our beach players who will head over to Perth to compete at the Australian Junior Beach Volleyball Championships 23-19 April.

We are very excited to announce the Premier Women’s team is travelling to Canberra on the long weekend to play matches against the Volleyball Australia Centre of Excellence (CoE) squad.
Head Coach of the CoE, Shannon Winzer, says “we are looking forward to the opportunity play against Heidelberg Volleyball Club and gain valuable match practice. We will be playing four matches, providing us with the opportunity to evaluate the development of each of our athletes against a quality opposition”.
Heidelberg Premier Women’s Head Coach, Andrew McCaskill, says, “we will be using this opportunity to establish a strong relationship with the CoE and gain competition experience against the nations best athletes. We have a young team with a lot to learn about their own game and what it means to play as a unit as they develop mental toughness through a growth mindset”.

Only five Victorians have been selected into the Australian Youth and Junior Women’s teams for the upcoming Asian Championships, with four of those five Victorians being Heidelbergers. Congratulations to Lauren Cox, Elly McInerney, Caity Tipping and Maria Lukic. As a Club we have worked hard to create the Club Development Pathway, which is proving to be very successful. The training and competition opportunities along with the quality coaching within the Club and at the Heidelberg Volleyball Academy, combine to create the environment for athletes to continually develop and improve. Well done to the girls, and to the coaches who have played a part in their development.
The Clubs VVL teams are coming together as the coaches finalise their selections. Club fees are now due from the selected athletes.

Players returning to play in 2018 will pay $450 and this includes all junior players moving from our junior development program into VVL teams, with the following exceptions:
Premier Women $400 ($50 off for making finals in 2017)
Div 2 Women Craigs team $400 ($50 off for making finals in 2017)
Div 3 Women Katie/Aimees team $400 ($50 off for making finals in 2017), and
Div 2 Women Tanya’s team $350 ($100 off for winning the Grand Final in 2017)

Players and coaches are also required to register with Volleyball Victoria via their online membership process as either full adult or full under 19 players. Coaches as technical.
When registering with Volleyball Victoria players and coaches should identify themselves with Northern Volleyball Association, Heidelberg Volleyball Club, and their respective school. This will ensure you are covered for all VV activities in 2018.
Uniforms and training gear will be distributed on receipt of Club Fees.

Premier Men’s Coach, Bassel Nakhleh has played at international national team, and professional club level for a decade. He has coached at professional club level for five years. Training will commence on Thursday 25 January at Catholic Ladies College, Diamond Street, Eltham 7.30-9.30pm. The team will train at Ivanhoe Grammar on Mondays and CLC on Thursdays throughout the year.
Premier Women’s Coach, Andrew McCaskill, has been coaching at the highest levels, nationally and internationally for over 20 years. Training will commence on Wednesday 24 January at Darwin Community Sports Centre, 857 Plenty Road, Reservoir 7.00-9.00pm and will continue throughout the year on Mondays at Ivanhoe Grammar and Wednesdays at Darwin Community Sports Stadium. Reserve Men’s Coach, Jim Konjarski, has been involved with volleyball for over 40 years and has played and coached at all levels of VVL. The team will begin training on Tuesday 23 January 7.30-9.30pm at PEGS, East Keilor, and will continue on Tuesdays throughout the year.
Reserve Women’s Coach, Tanya McInerney has played at the highest level within Australia and coached the Div 2 Women’s team to gold last year. The team will commence training on Wednesday 31 January at Darebin Community Sports Centre, 857 Plenty Road, Reservoir, 7.30-9.30pm and will continue on Wednesdays throughout the year.
Division 2 Women’s Coaches, Nat Adam and Craig Tremayne bring years of playing and coaching experience. Both have been consistently successful in terms of individual player development and team success in VVL. Nat’s team will start on Tuesday 30 January 7.30-9.30pm at PEGS East Keilor and will continue to train on Tuesdays. Craigs team will commence training on Wednesday 24 January 7.30-9.30pm at Darebin Community Sports Centre and will continue to train on Wednesdays.
Division 3 Women’ Coaches, Trevor Skinner and Aimee Topp are keen to work with the Clubs developing athletes in establishing their technical and tactical base. Trevors team will commence training on Tuesday 30 January at PEGS East Keilor, 6.00-7.30pm and will continue on Tuesdays throughout the year. Aimee’s team will commence on Wednesday 31 January 6-7.30 at Darebin Community Sports Centre, Reservoir and will continue on Wednesdays.
Division 3 Men’s Coach, James Konjarski, has played VVL for four years and will be looking to develop a group of players for the future by coaching them through their first experiences at VVL The team will commence training on Tuesday 30 January 6.00-7.30pm at PEGS, East Keilor and will continue to train on Tuesdays throughout the year.
