The Club Junior Program

Here is where you will find all the information about the upcoming National Under 15 Championships.
Heidelberg is sending two girls teams to the tournament.
The teams have two more trainings before they head off to Albury:
Sunday 6 April 9-11.30am
Sunday 13 April 9-11.30am after this training all the players/coaches/managers will be driving up to Albury.
There will be a welcome BBQ from 5-7pm at the venue (Lauren Jackson Sports Centre, 220 North Street Albury).

What a great day in Geelong with the three teams all recording wins. The Under 15 girls (four of whom are still in primary school) finished the tournament with a win, the Heidelberg 1 team finished at 2-2 and the Heidelberg 2 team winning silver.

If all the players could be at the venue (LeisureTime Centre, Anakie Road, Norlane West) no later than 8.15 ready to play that would be great.

Three teams, 16 matches, a very long day for players, parents and coaches. But also a very enjoyable one where all the teams performed very well.
The Under 15 team, having an average age of 12 (Alex, Jewel, Miranda, Hannah, Angela and Ivana) played against bigger opposition but never gave up and fought for every point. Well done girls.
One of the Under 17 girls team consisted mostly of the team that played in the under 15 national champs in Albury in April this year. The average age was 13 (Charlotte, Sara, Piper, Julia, Nikita, Kat, Presi) and the girls learnt all about back court setting and played some serious older teams.
The other Under 17 girls team was closer to the age of the division although they still had some young ones playing (Carla, Anna, Ana, Ana, Sia and Beatrice. This team performed very well finishing 3rd and showed they could all perform in the VVL Div 2 next year if they chose to.

Following the great success at the Western Region Tournament on 26 May, Heidelberg will be entering one boys and three girls teams into the Maribyrnong Championships this Sunday, 16th June at Maribyrnong College.

Heidelberg Volleyball Club has established its own junior volleyball academy, conducting training sessions at four locations:

@ East Keilor (Penleigh Essendon Grammar) on Tuesday nights 6pm to 7.30pm,
@ Darebin Community Sports Centre on Wednesday nights 5.30pm to 7.00pm,
@ Eltham (Catholic Ladies College) on Thursday nights 6pm to 7.30pm, and
@ Coburg (Coburg Basketball Stadium) on Friday afternoons 4.30pm to 6pm.

The sessions are limited to a small number of primary and high school children, living in the northern suburbs of Melbourne who want to be better volleyball players.

The aim of the Academy is to provide training and playing opportunities beyond that of a school volleyball program.

The Academy program is at the end of its second year. In that time it has achieved considerable success by:
– developing individual technical skills;
– promoting teamwork and social interaction; and
– introducing many first time players to tournaments and competition match play.

Our coaches are fully qualified, and  provide a challenging and enjoyable environment. The current group of Academy athletes (approximately 60) love their volleyball and continue to amaze the coaching staff with their enthusiasm for the game and desire to be better.

Each Academy is growing in numbers and quality of players and we welcome all new players (boys and girls) to these training sessions.

The Heidelberg Volleyball Club has a proud history of success and a lot of this success comes down to junior development. We are not a big club and we focus on quality, not necessarily quantity, when it comes to developing our junior players.

Heidelberg Volleyball Club’s senior teams compete at the highest level in Victoria (Victorian Volleyball League) and we have had many individual players go on to represent Victoria and Australia.

The junior development program focuses on developing the individual’s skills within a team environment. We aim to improve each player’s volleyball ability and along the way introduce them to team play. In time, the junior players will move into the more competitive environment of the Victorian Volleyball League, however our primary focus is on the enjoyment and challenges that volleyball provides.

Boys and Girls of primary and secondary school age are welcome to come along and discover the fun and enjoyment they can gain from being involved in the second largest sport in the world -VOLLEYBALL!
