Our Reserve Women’s team made Club history by playing in the first Grand Final for a Heidelberg Reserve Women’s team in the VVL. Having finished fourth, Grace and the girls had to fight through two finals before falling short in the Grand Final. Silver is a great result for their efforts throughout the year.

Firstly I would like to congratulate all coaches and players on their teams performances this year. Success is measured in many ways (participation and enjoyment levels, player development, good culture, wins/losses, and so on). Based on these performance measures 2014 has been a very successful year for this little Club. And we will celebrate “the year that was” at our Presentation Dinner on Friday 29 August.

But right now our focus turns to supporting those Club teams who have made it through to the finals of the 2014 VVL.

The Premier Women’s team has finished in third place and will enter its ninth consecutive finals campaign (2006 – 2014) having taken out the title in 2007 and 2011. They will play VU at 10am.
The Reserve Women team has finished 4th and will compete in its first finals campaign in the history of the VVL. They will play Monash at at 12pm.
The Div 2 Women’s program is represented  by Heidelberg 1 who finished in 4th position and will play Cobras at 2pm.

So I hope to see a lot of you out there this Saturday as a show of support to your fellow Club members.

Jenny Becker

Congratulations to the following Heidelberg players who have been awarded All Star 7 at the National Championships and/or Most Valuable Players for their respective state teams:
Louise Alford All Star 7 and MVP for Under 19 Blue,
Achol Akec MVP for Under 19 White
Mikayla Adam All Star 7
Brianna Pyritz MVP for Under 17 East
You, and all our other junior players continue to do this club proud.

The Club will hold its AGM at Penleigh Essendon Grammar School Gymnasium on Tuesday 29 July from 7.30pm.
All current members are invited.
There are a number of positions on the committee and sub-committees for those who would like to assist in the running of the Club. These are not time consuming appointments and it is important for this Club to have a large and active administration. Please email the club at the following address if you feel you want to contribute heidelbergvolleyballclub@hotmail.com

Wow, what a great six months for this little volleyball club. We have experienced success in many forms across the entire playing group at Heidelberg.
Our two girls teams did us proud at the National Under 15 Championships with the more experienced team taking out Silver, and our development team learning how to compete at a national carnival.   Congratulations to the coaches, players and parents who contributed to making this tournament such a success, on and off the court.
Our juniors continue to do us proud with 12 Bergers representing Victoria at the Australian Junior Volleyball Championships currently being played in Canberra. Having popped in to watch the Heidelberg players, I was very impressed that they were all starters and playing very very well. You all do this club proud:
– Under 19 – Achol, Liana, Emma, Tayla and Louise all starting six.
– Under 17 – Brianna and Zach (captains) Mikayla (vice captain), Mackenzie, Zak, Sean and April all starting six.
Not only do we have many state players but some of our juniors are now Australian Representatives at indoor and beach:
Liana, Mikayla, Mackenzie and Alek all played for Australia in tournaments in Asia (Zach unfortunately broke his ankle and missed out after being selected) and now Alek is overseas playing in the World Youth Beach Volleyball Championships in Mexico.
Finally, the performance of our teams in the 2014 VVL season only reinforces the belief that this club can not only survive adversity but has a brilliant future. We have the Premier Women, Reserve Men, Reserve Women and Div 2 Women in the mix for the finals. Scott and the Premier Men have done us proud, Jim and the Div 2 boys are showing us the future, and the Div 2 women’s teams continue to reinforce our position as one of, if not the best, development program for junior women in Victoria.
Good luck to all the teams in the final round.
